Teach Language in Nature

Do you find yourself feeling cooped up, not being able to take your little one to many places? Take a nature walk. First focus on what you see. Point out the trees, bird and squirrel nests, logs, and twigs. Go in search of cardinals, robins, or crows. Look for big animals such as a neighbor’s dog, or little animals such as a squirrel, or tall grasses and flowers. Ask your child what they hear. Listen for soft sounds like the chirp of crickets, humming of cicadas, or buzzing of bees. Talk about the smells and teach them words such as fresh, crisp, or sweet. Take the opportunity to about the weather and then explain why you and your child wear a jacket because the weather is chilly or a explain that you wear a short sleeve shirt because it is warm. Enjoy your exploration of nature while infusing your child with language.
